SARA’S SUBJECTIVE JOURNEY TO INSANITY – The clock
We know by now that Sara is addicted to food and to TV, more specifically to a programme called “Juice”. We also know that Sara has received a phone call bearing the news that she has won the opportunity to appear on Television. Her main concern from then on becomes to lose weight in order to be able to fit once more into her red dress, which she wants to wear for the occasion. She decides to go on a strict diet.
Going on a diet involves not only eating restricted amounts of food but also eating them at specific times of the day. Suddenly Sara realises that she can no longer eat anything she wants any time she wants. She’s also not a very busy lady. In fact, she spends most of her time at home and has nothing else to do but eat and watch TV.
The first clue of how she feels about this is given through sound. From this point on, the constant tick tock of a clock becomes the aural representation of the activity her mind is mostly engaged in: anxiously counting the seconds towards the next time slot when she will be able to eat.
