About Sound Surgery
Sound Surgery’s history dates back to autumn 1992. Director, Robert Stone attended Bethlehem Evangelical Church on a Sunday evening for the first time. Rob witnessed Pastor Peter Jeffery preach a sermon on Genesis 3 titled “The Fall of Man” and was profoundly moved, ultimately giving his life to the Lord that same evening. Within weeks of that event, Rob visited the Apostolic Church in Swansea to attend an evening of music by American Evangelist Bill Drake. On his return journey to Port Talbot, he had a strong sense that the event had been more impactful than he had anticipated. He noticed the sound technician controlling the sound desk and realised this was the area the Lord was calling him to serve. Just a few weeks later he found himself involved with the sound ministry such as it was in Bethlehem Evangelical Church at that time.
There were many events that transpired in the intervening years, including baby steps into the world of audio recording. Fast forwarding to the early 2000’s, Rob was involved with a new church plant in the Baglan area of Port Talbot. A big part of Rob’s involvement was with all the live sound and media recording that goes along with a fledgling new church. Around the same time he, along with his wife and daughters, moved into the house that was home to Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones during his ministry at Bethlehem Evangelical Church. Rob was confident that this move was part of a bigger plan for his future in an evolving media ministry, and it is where Rob and his wife still reside. With his wife’s blessing - Rob set up a christian recording studio in what was Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones’s original study. There are many stories that could be told about that studio, yet the most important to mention is the work created alongside Pastor Peter Jeffery, who was preaching the night Rob gave his life to the Lord. Rob and Peter worked on many media projects together.
In 2019 the President of the Martyn Lloyd Jones trust, Greg Jones, met with Rob in what could only be described as a God centred meeting of minds and hearts. Rob asked if it was possible for him to have the opportunity to work on a few test sermons of the Dr, which were 1st Generation audio captured in a successful digital archiving project undertaken in the 1980’s. Rob wanted to see if he could improve that audio quality of those recordings, which had been captured yet not enhanced at the time. That request led to a four year (and still counting) collaboration with the MLJ Trust which has produced 1,600 sermons both restored and enhanced with painstaking care by Rob, and made available for online streaming to a new audience.
And that brings us to the present, and the creation of Sound Surgery Limited. The name is a respectful nod to the audio restoration work of Christian preaching, which is done with surgical precision in the house of one of the most gifted preacher of his generation, who also happened to a skilled Dr. Sound Surgery provides audio and visual restoration and digital archiving services with a mission to bring spirit filled theological preachings and their unchanging, life affirming messages to a new generation of listeners who otherwise would not get the chance to hear some of the most important sermons ever recorded.
